Janet Haworth was a Member of the National Assembly for
Wales between May 2015 and April 2016. This was her biography at the time she
left.
Personal History
Janet
background is in teaching and training. Alongside raising three children she
worked in secondary schools in London, Derbyshire, Aberdeen and North Wales as
well as a FE college in Essex.
Janet
has also worked as a personnel and training manager for a charity and for Shell
Petroleum.
Whilst
in Essex Janet established only the second Return to Work programme for women
in the UK.
In
the mid 2000’s Janet opened Abbey Lodge Guest House in Llandudno which featured
in the Michelin Guide. Janet has become fully involved with the small business
community of the region. She serves on the executive of the Llandudno
Hospitality Association, a local small business association. For 5 years she
served as a director for North Wales Tourism.
Political History
In
2008 Janet was elected to Llandudno Town Council and Conwy County Council
representing a ward that had been held by Labour for over twenty years. In 2012
years ago Janet was re-elected and continues to serve as a County Councillor
for the area.
In
early June 2015 Janet took her seat as a Welsh Conservative Regional Assembly
Member for North Wales following the election of the previous AM for the area
to Parliament.
Since
her appointment Janet has been appointed as Shadow Minister for Environment and
Energy and is as member of the Assembly’s Environment and Sustainability
Committee.
