A petition to ban greyhound racing in Wales.
“Greyhound racing is inherently cruel and greyhounds have little legal protection. It is already banned in 41 US states.” – Hope Rescue, Petitioner.
The petition raised awareness of:
- Wales has one independent greyhound racing track, with plans for it to become a Greyhound Board of Great Britain track, increasing the number of races per week.
- Since 2018, Hope Rescue and their rescue partners have taken in almost 200 surplus greyhounds, 40 of which sustained injuries.
What happened?
- The Committee heard evidence from greyhound welfare charities and those currently involved with greyhound racing. The welfare of greyhounds was central to the Committee’s considerations.
- Petition was debated in the Senedd.
- Welsh Government have committed to asking the public whether greyhound racing should be banned.
