The National Assembly for Wales has approved the nomination of Adrian Crompton as the new Auditor General for Wales.
The vote on 14 March follows his selection as the preferred candidate by the Finance Committee.
Mr Crompton is currently Director of Assembly Business at the National Assembly for Wales and was approved following a rigorous recruitment process involving an independent panel interview and assessment, and a pre-nomination hearing before the Committee.
Mr Crompton said:
“It is a great honour and privilege to have been nominated for the position of Auditor General for Wales.
“Those delivering public services in Wales face enormous challenges in a time of severe financial constraint and as we address the implications of withdrawal from the European Union, fiscal devolution and further constitutional reform.
“I look forward to working with the team at the Wales Audit Office to help public bodies address those challenges and ensure that the citizens of Wales get value for money from the public sector.”
The recruitment process was led by Simon Thomas AM, Chair of the Finance Committee:
“The Auditor General for Wales has a vitally important role as the gatekeeper of the public purse in Wales.
“The position ensures organisations operate efficiently in their management of public money and have robust operating arrangements in place to ensure the highest levels of integrity and governance.
“The panel and the Finance Committee was impressed with Adrian’s insight and experience, and feel he is well-equipped to continue and develop the critical work undertaken by the Wales Audit Office.”
Mr Crompton’s nomination will now be sent to Her Majesty the Queen for approval.
He is expected to take up post in July, when the current Auditor General stands down from office.
